WAYS AND MEANS
Ways and means has the very important responsibility of raising money for the PTA. Raising revenue and fundraising is how the PTA can host free events like Talent Shows, Back to School BBQ, Movie Nights and Festivals. It also helps support STEM programs like Math Club and Science Olympiad. The PTA is also responsible for teacher mini grants and an annual gift to school which in the past has included shade structures for lunch benches, a new sound system for the MUR, computers, microscopes, books for the library, and new school furniture.
Like Programs, Ways and Means has many events and programs that require planning committees and chairpersons. Please check out the list of fundraising efforts below and sign up on our Volunteer Interest Form to join a Ways and Means event planning committee. Planning committees start to meet prior to the event and handle all of the details with the help of our VP of Ways and Means, Chanel Sharp OceanAirPTAWaysandMeans@gmail.com
Book Fairs
Chair: Julianne Noh
Ocean Air hosts 2 book fairs each year during the teacher conference weeks. In the fall it is the used book sale, which involves collecting used books from the community and then running a sale on the Ocean Air campus. In the spring, we use a vendor for a book sale that is set up in the library. Past vendors include Scholastic and Literari. This committee is responsible for organizing both events.
Read-A-Thon
Chair: Chanel Sharp
Our main fundraising event of the year! This event helps fund all the programs listed on our Programs homepage. To put it frankly, there wouldn’t be a PTA without a read-a-thon. Students commit to reading books and pages they choose. Sponsors donate to how much they read. There are fun riddles and games throughout the week to motivate our readers and prizes to win along the way. Chairperson for this event is responsible for coordinating our fundraising efforts, coming up with a theme, and organizing volunteers.
Restaurant Nights

Don’t feel like cooking one night? Ocean Air has got you covered with regular restaurant nights that let you skip the stove and sponsor the school. Lookout for these events on our Instagram page, here on the website and our Shark Shout Out. Chairpersons for these events are responsible for calling local restaurants and organizing a discount and percentage of profit for our school.
Spring Silent Auction

Included in our Spring Festival is our Silent Spring Auction. This includes the very popular “Teacher Features” as well as a plethora of luxury experiences, local business gift cards, and fun baskets. This chair and committee is responsible for securing donations, setting up the website for the auction, and preparing and distributing the prizes. All proceeds go directly to the PTA to support all the events and programs.
Spirit Wear
Chair: Kim Lacy
This year we have a BRAND NEW line of spirit wear for Ocean Air! Starting with one new tshirt design and hoping to expand to other items, this committee is responsible for designing items, getting them manufactured, maintaining inventory, and managing sales through booths and online sales.
